Abstract

The present clinical study was carried out on nineteen buffaloes with positive ferroscopic test and symptoms akin to traumatic reticulo-pericarditis (TRP) to detect the involvement of heart, if any. Though radiography revealed the presence of metallic objects in the reticulum in most of the cases, heart involvement could not be confirmed. Electrocardiography revealed arrhythmias and conduction disturbances in 13 buffaloes (68.4%) affected with TRP. Of these eight buffaloes showed positive reaction to qualitative cardiac troponin-I test suggesting cardiac insult in these cases. From the present study it appears that 68.4% (13/19) buffaloes with traumatic reticulo-peritonitis had arrhythmias and conduction disturbances and 42.10% (8/19) had an evidence of cardiac insult suggested by increased level of cardiac troponin-I.
