Abstract

An ex-post facto study was conducted in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh for documentation of the constraints perceived by goat farmers in accessing and utilization of information related to scientific goat farming. For data collection, total 80 female and 80 male goat owners were randomly selected from 4 highest goat populated blocks of district. Their perceptions were assessed on three point continuum scale i.e. most serious (3), serious (2) and least serious (1). Based on obtained weighted mean score, constraints were ranked separately for female, male, and overall respondents. Spearman rank correlation coefficient values revealed that male and female goat farmers were in strong agreement about the prevalence of identified constraints related to accessing information as well as utilization of information. ‘Lack of awareness’, ‘lack of goat specific information’ and ‘extension worker personality’ were major constraints in accessing information, while, regarding constraints in utilization of information; ‘irrelevant information’, ‘more technical content’ and ‘small herd size’ were top ranked.
