Abstract

The present study was conducted on 40 clinical cases of bovine (10 cattle, 30 buffaloes), aged 3-7 years, suffering from various abdominal disorders. The confirmatory diagnosis was made based on surgical findings and the animals were grouped according to the primary condition diagnosed into five groups: foreign body syndrome (n=14), faecolith (n=6), caecal impaction (n=5), reticular abscess (n=2) and diaphragmatic hernia (n=13). Diaphragmatic hernia was found to be chronic disease of recently parturated female Murrah buffalo characterized by recurrent tympany, no pain and partial anorexia; caecal impaction and faecolith were acute disease of female bovine characterized by presence of pain, absence of tympany and mucoid to absent defecation; Clinical signs were not pronounced in animals with foreign body syndrome and partial anorexia was the only presenting feature.
