Abstract

A total of 730 slaughtered sheep were examined for hepatic lesions at local abattoirs of Palanpur, Gujarat, India. Out of 730 liver, 148 (20.27%) showed grossly appreciable hepatic lesions. The detailed histopathological examination of 148 sheep with different hepatic lesions revealed hepatitis in 37 (25.00%) cases, followed by abscess in 24 (16.22%), fatty liver in 18 (12.16%), haemorrhage in 17 (11.49%), necrosis in 14 (9.46%), congestion in 13 (8.78%),  hydatidosis in 11 (7.43%), pigmentation/haemosiderosis in 2 (1.35%) and grossly white spots lesion in 12 (8.11%) cases. Hepatitis was further categorized into acute and chronic hepatitis in 10 (6.76%) and 27 (18.24%) cases, respectively.
