Abstract

The present study was undertaken during period of December, 2012 to June, 2013 to elucidate the occurrence of catarrhal enteritis in camels. A total of 72 samples of intestine, irrespective of age, sex and breeds were examined. Out of these samples, 28 (38.89%) showing frank gross lesions were collected and tissue sections from these samples were subjected to histopathological examination. Catarrhal enteritis was recorded in 17.86 per cent cases. The gross changes were presence of variable amount of mucinous exudates in lumen and thickened wall of intestine. Microscopically, degeneration and sloughing of the surface epithelium, exfoliation of intestinal villi with moderate hyperaemia was also present and intestinal glands were atrophied with inflammation of mucosa and sub-mucosa.
