Abstract

Present study was conducted on  120 respondents of 8 villages of Chittorgarh and Kapasan tehsils of Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan to analyse the goat breeding and feeding practices. Frequencies were work out for each attitude and percentage were calculated to draw inferences. All the goat owners detect the heat by symptoms and use natural breeding. Most of goat owners use the community buck (73.33%), give extra ration at the kidding time (84.17%), pregnancy (50.00%) and breeding during rainy season (65.00%). About one third goat owners use the improved breeding buck. About two third goat owners use the 20-40 breedable goats for service. Most of goat owners castrate their male kids for meat production at 0-3 months of age (50.00%). Most of goat owners change the breeding buck to avoid inbreeding (73.33%), bred the goat during rainy season and select the buck on the basis of body weight (50.83%). Majority of goat owners offer semi stall feeding (75.83%) and graze the animal >6 hrs on commonly pasture land (74.77%). All the goat owners protect the pasture land by dry bushes (58.33%) and preserved the tree leaves (51.67%). A few goat owners fed the balance ration (19.17%) and 55.83 per cent don’t know about balance ration. Almost goat owners offered green feeding, looping of trees (85.00%), dry fodder (78.33%), concentrate feeding (84.17%), common salt feeding (86.67%) and clean drinking water (83.33%). Generally some goat owners are give mineral mixture and extra ration to kids for meat purpose (55.00%).
