Abstract
The present study was conducted on 480 lung samples of sheep collected from various slaughterhouses situated in and around the Bikaner district of Rajasthan to elucidate the pathology of ovine progressive pneumonia. Out of total, 126 (26.25%) specimens suspected of pathological abnormalities were further processed for histopathological examination. Ovine progressive pneumonia was recorded in 4 (3.17%) animals. Grossly, the lungs were remarkably heavy, with a pale grey or tan discolouration and rubbery in consistency. Multiple grey foci were randomly distributed within the lung parenchyma. Microscopic examination revealed multifocal areas of peribronchial lymphoid hyperplasia with the formation of lymphoid follicles and perivascular lymphocytic cuffing.
