Abstract

Present investigation was carried out to examine the effect of SLC35A3 gene polymorphism on the three-month body weight of cross-bred (Holstein X Karan Fries) calves. Mutation in SLC35A3 gene causes recessive hereditary disorder- complex vertebral malformation in Holstein cattle. This study was carried out in 80 Karan Fries animals maintained at livestock farm of National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal.  The least squares mean for three-month body weight of carrier genotype (heterozygous) and wild genotype was 57.99±4.14 kg and 63.23±4.30 kg, respectively. The effect of SLC35A3 gene polymorphism on the three month body weight of calf was found to be non-significant.
