Abstract

Study was aimed to compare the oxidative status in blood plasma of Frieswal bulls during comfortable (October – May) and stressful (June – September) periods of the year. A total of 36 blood samples were collected from six bulls; 18 each during two different periods of the year and blood plasma Malondialhyde (MDA), Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) and Protein Carbonyl Content (PCC) levels were estimated. The level of MDA was significantly (P<0.05) higher and that of TAC was significantly (P<0.05) lower during stressful period as compared to comfortable period, whereas no significant (P>0.05) difference was found with respect to PCC levels between two periods The present study indicated that Frieswal cross-bred bulls undergo significantly higher level of OS during stressful (June-September) period, which may be because of their genetic make-up.
