Title: Efficacy of different estrus synchronizing protocols on estrus induction in postpartum lactating dairy cows

The present study was conducted on 75 postpartum dairy cows (cyclic and acyclic) to evaluate the estrus synchronization protocols i.e. 5 day Co-Synch+TRIU-B (T1; n=25), Ovsynch (T2; n=25), Heatsynch (T3; n=25). Ten cyclic cows were kept as untreated control (C). Blood samples were taken from the treated cows on day 0, day of PGF2α inj. (day of 1st PGF2α IM in T1 group), day of AI and day 21 post AI, while, on day of AI & day 21 post AI from control animals for serum progesterone (P4) analysis. All the cows (treated and control) were inseminated on estrus. The estrus induction rate was 91.66%, 88% and 96% in T1, T2 and T3 group, respectively. Expression of estrus signs was highest in Heatsynch protocol group cows as compare to other groups. The conception rates were 65%, 59.09%, 50% and 70% in T1, T2, T3 and control group, respectively. The overall mean P4 values were significantly (P<0.01) higher on the day of PGF2α administration and on the day 21 post AI. The P4 concentrations were significantly (P<0.01) higher in conceived animals than non-conceived on day 21 post-AI in all groups. Heatsynch protocol was most effective for induction of estrus while conception rate was better with 5 day Co-synch+TRIU-B protocol than the Ovsynch and Heatsynch protocols.
