Abstract

The thyroid gland was covered by a three-layered capsule. The epithelium and follicular colloid varied according to the functional phase of the gland. Flat dark nuclei of myoepithelial cells were seen around the thyroid follicles. The follicles were classified in accordance with the diameter of their follicular colloids in three sizes: small, medium and large. The gland showed predominant collagenous fibers in capsule and trabeculae and reticular fibers in inter-follicular connective tissue. The parafollicular cells in the parenchyma of thyroid gland were ovoid in shape, large sized with pale-staining cytoplasm.
