Evolution of society depends on sustaining experimental spirit and appreciating indigenous knowledge, skill which form integral elements of it. These creative solutions provide necessary impetus for self-sustaining activities in terms of socio-economic-technological impact. Exploring insights into such wisdom provides opportunity to learn, adapt and make effective use of technologies. This is pertinent for veterinary institutions as they face hardship in minimizing effect of livestock ailments inspite of its vast institutional network. Tick infestation is one such non-dramatic disease to combat as farmers’ face emotional, financial constraints. National Innovation Foundation-India had launched a campaign in addressing livestock welfare against tick infestation through open source innovation system. Development of technical know-how was based on farmers’ experimental wisdom as well as availability of medicinal ingredients. This sustainable practice was found effective, widely adopted in Pune regions of Maharashtra exemplifying model for social construction of technology. This concept paper narrates how low cost locally available resources can help in improvising livestock health care through leveraging knowledge, institutional governance. An In-situ incubation Model of Alternative Technologies (IMAT) has been shared in scaling up of indigenous knowledge research system.
