Abstract

A study was conducted on development of bulbourethral gland of 70 goat foeti, divided into five groups viz.Group I (0-30 days), Group II (31-60 days), Group III (61-90 days), Group IV (91-120 days) and Group V (121-till term). A pie shaped paired primordia of bulbourethral glands appeared on 55th day of gestation on either side of dorso lateral aspect of pelvic urethra which became rounded from third month of gestation. Microscopically, it was composed of mesenchymal mass and solid clusters of cells enveloped by undifferentiated muscle bundles. The canalization of ducts began on 56th day of gestation. At 108th day of gestation, the gland was divided into distinct lobules by means of fibro muscular septae. Fore-runners of mucous cells were noticed from 116 days of foetal life. The basement membrane of the ducts exhibited intense reaction for PAS, alkaline phosphatase and moderate to intense reaction for acid phosphatase.
