Abstract

An experiment was planned to assess the effect of dietary inclusion of mesquite Prosopis juliflora pods and Citrullus lanatus seed cake on growth performance and morphometrics in sixteen Marwari goat kids. They were randomly divided by completely randomized block design into four groups of four kids in each. Four complete feeds designated as T1, T2, T3 and T4 were prepared. T1 served as control having all the conventional ingredients, whereas mesquite Prosopis juliflora (vilayati babul) pods were included in T2, Citrullus lanatus (watermelon) seed cake in T3 and both Prosopis juliflora pods and Citrullus lanatus cake were incorporated in T4. The morphometric parameters were worked out to ascertain the growth performance for all the groups. Significant effect of treatment on average daily gain was observed, whereas the effect on periodical live weight gain, length, height, girth was non-significant. It can be concluded that both mesquite Prosopis juliflora pods and Citrullus lanatus seed cake could be safely and effectively included alone or in combination in the complete feed of goats.
