Abstract

Present study was conducted on 100 randomly selected dairy farmers to assess the knowledge levels regarding improved practices of dairy husbandry for transition period in five blocks of the Mathura district.  Overall knowledge score was found to be (76.70%) which means that the majority of the dairy farmers were having medium knowledge levels regarding various aspects of improved dairy management practices. The knowledge score for calf management practices was highest (87.50%) and feeding management practices were lowest (62.50%). The healthcare and general management practices knowledge scores were 75.00% and 81.82%, respectively. The knowledge scores in the areas of mineral mixture feeding (54.00%), incorporation of feed additives in animal diet (52.00%), negative DCAD diet feeding (53.00%), age of disbudding (63.00%), dry cow therapy (58.00%) and initiation of hay feeding to calves (72.00%) were least. It was concluded that the majority of dairy farmers have a medium level of knowledge regarding various improved practices of dairy farming. So, there is a vast scope and need of increasing the existing knowledge of dairy farmers, especially in the areas of feeding followed by healthcare of the animals.
