Abstract
Seven adults pluriparous Murrah buffaloes of different ages were reported to VCC, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology. On physical palpation, swellings were soft, painless, and reducible in size by manual pressure. Swellings were noted lateral to the right vulvar lip in four buffaloes and on the left side in three buffaloes. After lifting of mass, the urine was voided out, and hernial ring was felt in the perineal region. Based on clinical signs, it was diagnosed as a unilateral perineal hernia, and herniorrhaphy was performed in all cases. The herniated organs (urinary bladder and omentum) were found to be free from adhesions and manually returned to their anatomic positions. Postoperatively, antimicrobial and analgesic therapy was continued for five days and three days respectively. The owners were instructed to keep the buffaloes on green fodder for 30 days. In conclusion; early diagnosis and surgical intervention of perineal hernia in all buffaloes ensured uneventful recovery.
