Abstract

In the present study, 24 cows were chosen based on their milk yield, parity, and body weight and divided into four homogeneous treatment groups, each with six cows, to assess the effects of vitamin E and selenium supplementation during the late stages of pregnancy on immunoglobulin of colostrum. Out of these, one group served as control fed as per NRC (2001) wherein no supplementation was given.  Cows in treatment groups,   Group-1 vitamin    E,   Group-2   selenium and   Group-3,   vitamin   E + Selenium supplementation were given daily along with a control diet. To estimate samples of colostrums were collected at day 1st and 3rd of calving and analyzed for IgG and IgM. The amount of IgG differed significantly (P<0.01) between groups as well as among groups differed significantly (P<0.01) between different days of the lactation period. The interaction effect including group and days was also found significant (P<0.01). The highest value of mean±SE of IgG was in supplemented combination followed by the Selenium, Vitamin E and Control. The amount of IgM differed significantly (P<0.01) between groups as well as among groups differed significantly (P<0.01) between different days of the lactation period. The interaction effect including group and days was also found significant (P<0.01). The highest value of IgM was in the animals of the supplemented combination group followed by the Selenium, Vitamin E and Control groups.
