Abstract
Assisted reproductive technologies improve reproductive efficiency for enhanced productivity of cattle. Ovum Pick-Up (OPU) – In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) technology aids in producing more embryos from superior donors through a collection of multiple oocytes. During each OPU session, there will be variations in the oocyte recovery rate based on the breed, and laboratory so that exogenous gonadotropins are used for super stimulation to obtain quality oocytes. Sahiwal cattle are a heat-tolerant and dual-purpose cattle breed with the potential to produce 15lts of milk per day and its genetic merit needs to be exploited using OPU-IVF technology. Twelve Sahiwal cows aged 6-8 years were divided into two groups. Animals in group 1 (FSH stimulated, n=6) were subjected to FSH pre-stimulation (Folltropin-V, 200 mg i/m in 3 divided doses 100, 60, 40 mg) prior to OPU 1 session and OPU 2 session performed after 96 hrs interval. Animals in group 2 (FSH stimulated, n=6) were subjected to FSH pre-stimulation (Stimufol, 250 µg i/m in 3 divided doses125, 75, 25 µg) prior to OPU 1st session and OPU 2nd session performed after 96 hrs interval. The mean number of follicles available for aspiration was significantly (p0.05) between mean number of oocytes recovered (48.17±7.3 vs 40±6.02) and viable oocytes (35.5±5.34vs33.67±5.33) between the two groups, respectively.
