Abstract

Clinical study of aetiology and incidence of mandibular fracture were conducted on 18 camels (Camelus dromedarius) of both sexes of 01-12 years and above age group animals presented at Veterinary Clinical Complex, RAJUVAS, Bikaner for treatment of the mandibular fracture. Fighting between camels and biting the trees or other fixed objects were major causes of mandibular fracture in camels. Forceful feeding was not the unknown cause of mandibular fracture in camels. The site of fracture was at the horizontal rami, across the alveoli of tushes in the majority of cases and all fractures were bilateral in nature. The occurrence of mandibular fracture among the fracture cases of camel during the study period was 56.25% out of which 16 (88.88%) were males and (2) 11.11% were females. The majority of fractures were transverse fractures (55.55%) and compound (83.33%) in nature. Oblique (27.77%) and multiple fractures (16.66%) were also encountered. The incidence of mandibular fracture was found higher in the breeding season as compared to the non-breeding season.
