Abstract
Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an economically significant viral disease of cattle caused by the lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), a member of the Capripoxvirus genus. The present study was conducted as a farm trial at Pondicherry and evaluated the effectiveness of herbal formulations as an adjunct to conventional treatment in LSD-affected cattle. A total of 30 cattle were selected and divided into three groups with 10 animals in each: Group A (conventional allopathic treatment), Group B (conventional treatment plus herbal formulation), and Group C (conventional treatment plus a commercially available oral LSD booster). Recovery parameters, including feed intake restoration and time taken for healing wound lesions, were assessed. Statistical analysis demonstrated that Group B exhibited significantly faster recovery than Groups A and C (P<0.01). These findings highlight the potential of herbal formulations in improving recovery outcomes in LSD-infected cattle, necessitating further clinical investigation. References Alzohairy MA (2016).
