Abstract

The present study was conducted in apparently healthy cross-bred Holstein Friesian cattle (n=40) and Murrah she buffaloes (n=30). Electrocardiography was performed in bipolar base apex lead using lead II at a paper speed of 25mm/sec and calibrated at 10 mV. The amplitude (mV) of Q, R, S and T wave was significantly higher (p<0.01) in the cow as compared to buffaloes; however, the P wave amplitude (mV) showed a non-significant difference between cattle and buffaloes. The P and QRS duration (seconds) were significantly higher (p<0.01) in cattle than buffaloes however the T, PR, QT, RR and ST intervals were significantly (p<0.01) longer in buffalo than cattle. Amplitude correlated positively with age in buffaloes for Q, S and T wave and non significantly with respect to P and R waves. The duration correlation with heart rate showed a significant (p<0.05) negative correlation for P wave.
