Present investigation was carried out to the effect of vitamin E and selenium in induction of oestrus as well as on certain blood biochemical constituents in 20 post-partum anoestrous cows from Khanapara area of Guwahati, Assam. The antioxidant drug E care Se was injected (i/m) at weekly interval for five occasions. Estimation of different biochemical constituents from blood samples was done at weekly interval using standard procedure. Animals after induction of oestrus were subjected to AI and examined for diagnosis of pregnancy. From the treatment group, 60% cows came to oestrus, of which 66.67% conceived. The mean interval between last day of antioxidant treatment and onset of oestrus was 2.83±0.28 days. Both vitamin E and selenium showed significant effect on certain blood biochemical constituents. The levels of serum calcium and inorganic phosphorus were highest on the day of induced oestrus in treated cows as compared to other days of observation. Serum calcium and inorganic phosphorus level varied significantly (P<0.01) between groups. However, the ratios between calcium and phosphorus (2:1) levels were maintained. Also, the levels of serum glucose, cholesterol were highest on day of induced oestrus. The results suggested that the antioxidant drug E care Se can be used in field condition effectively for post-partum oestrus induction.
