Abstract

Random amplified polymorphic DNA- polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR) technique was employed to identify the production line- specific markers in Jakharana goats. Based on the evaluation of 120 animals for production traits, two groups for production trait high milk producing and low milk producing (HP and LP line) 30 animals in each line were developed. Total eight line specific markers i.e. 18-OPM 600, 14-OPM 1040, 01-OPA 540, 08-OPP 840, 08OPP 500, 02-OPP 2260, 02-OPP 1800, 02-OPP 700 were identified. However, among 8 specific loci only two loci i.e. 14-OPM 1040 and 08-OPP 840 was found truly line specific having 1.00 in HP line and 0.00 frequencies in LP line. The finding of the present study justifies the use of RAPD-PCR technique to identify markers for economically important traits.
